Dentist After Hours

Your oral health is not something that can necessarily be dealt with on a normal 9-5 schedule. We understand that you may need care outside of regular office hours, and here at iSmile we can help in many ways.

What Happens if I Need a Dentist After Hours?

Our Principal Dentist, Dr. Jenni Tippmann, wants to use her unique, gentle dentistry to help you and create a lifelong relationship with all her clients, improving your oral health and getting them to achieve a “Healthy Smile, Beautiful Smile”.

Get Advice From Dr. Jenni on Social Media

If you have a question about your teeth that you need an answer to – outside of normal working hours – you can turn to our Facebook page. Dr. Jenni is regularly on the page to answer your questions, offer advice and generally help our clients.

If you have an emergency, do call us first – we guarantee a same day appointment for all emergencies and this is often the quickest and most efficient way to deal with your emergency.

How Can I Look After My Oral Health and Minimise Emergency Appointments at Home?

When it comes to looking after your smile, prevention and protection is better than cure – so we suggest that you come to the office, conveniently located in the Central Shopping District of Hope Island, to get a comprehensive check-up and a detailed, personalised dental health plan. This will include information on how to brush and floss effectively, monitor the health of your gums and other soft tissue, and even remineralise your teeth if necessary – preventing problems before they occur.

If you need some extra tips and advice for best oral hygiene, the below information is a good starting point – and comes from the latest research at Colgate and other leading dentistry industries.

  • Brush your teeth thoroughly, at least twice a day

Following a regular cleaning routine will ensure that not only are your teeth and mouth clean, you will also minimise bad breath. Choose a toothbrush with a small head and gentle bristles to clean all visible surfaces of the teeth for 2-3 minutes. The best times to brush are in the morning when you get up, and in the evening before you go to bed.

  • Floss daily

Flossing is an important way to clean the ‘hidden’ surfaces of your teeth – the bits that can’t be reached by a toothbrush. Make sure that you use a gentle sawing motion with your floss – or you can buy interdental brushes if the gaps between your teeth are too small for flossing.

  • Use a fluoridated toothpaste

Using a fluoridated toothpaste hardens your tooth enamel. This can help prevent cavities. Make sure that if you are using a fluoridated toothpaste with your children that you minimise swallowing, as this can be harmful.

  • Limit acidic drinks and sugary foods

What we eat can have an effect on the health of our teeth. Fruit juice, soft drinks and cordials are all acidic, and this can soften the minerals of the teeth. Sugar in foods is turned into acids by the bacteria contained in plaque, and in extreme cases can ‘eat’ the tooth down to the gums. By reducing our intake of these foods and drinks, we can have a dramatic impact on the health of our mouths.

  • Protect your teeth

If you are playing a contact sport, make sure to wear a mouthguard or a headguard. If you do have a tooth or teeth knocked out, try to hold them in place while you seek emergency dental help. If this isn’t possible, put them in plastic or milk and take them with you – there is a chance they can be reattached.

Don’t use your teeth for anything other than eating. If you use them to crack nuts, or open bottles, you are at risk of chipping or even fracturing your teeth.
